Our Attorneys

Julianne Hill leads the Powell Project and provides resources, assistance, and support to capital trial teams in several states. Her areas of expertise include motions practice, intellectual disability, and negotiating non-death resolutions. Prior to joining the Powell Project in 2016, she worked for human rights organization Reprieve, where she focused on lethal injection in executions and aiding foreign nationals facing the death penalty. In law school she worked on capital cases with the Equal Justice Initiative in Alabama and the Habeas Corpus Resource Center in California, and she represented clients through the Prison Legal Assistance Project, the Criminal Justice Institute, and Harvard Defenders. Julianne graduated from Harvard Law School after completing BA and MA degrees in Political Science at Arizona State University.

William Ahee joined the Powell Project in 2021. Previously, he clerked for U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremy Peterson in the Eastern District of California and was a Senior Trial Attorney at the Public Defender’s Office in El Paso, Texas, where he tried numerous felonies, including several murder cases. As an inaugural member of Texas’ Future Indigent Defense Leaders Program, William received intensive trial advocacy training. In law school, William was the recipient of the Gary Bellow Public Service Award in recognition of his work representing several dozen clients through the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project, Harvard Defenders, the Harvard Housing Clinic, and the Criminal Justice Institute. William hails from Detroit, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School.
